Terms of Use

These terms apply to Camera Dates at cameradates.com and its articles, newsletters, paid memberships, downloadable materials, and community. Camera Dates is operated by Jonathan Charles in Missouri, United States. By using these services, you agree to these terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Photography education
Camera Dates provides photography education, ideas, and guided activities. I aim to make the information useful and accurate, but results depend on your equipment, circumstances, decisions, and practice. I do not guarantee particular photographs, skill improvements, income, or other outcomes.
Use your own judgment when following an activity. Respect property boundaries, local rules, people, wildlife, and weather conditions. Do not put yourself or others at risk to make a photograph.
Accounts and membership benefits
Provide accurate account information and protect your sign-in access. Paid memberships are for your individual use; do not share access credentials or distribute member-only materials to others.
Benefits and billing terms are described on the membership or purchase page. No particular publishing schedule, permanent archive access, or future product is guaranteed unless expressly included in the offer you purchase. I may update content and services, but these terms do not remove obligations concerning benefits already purchased or applicable consumer rights.
Billing and automatic renewal
Paid website memberships are processed through Stripe. Unless an offer states otherwise, subscriptions automatically renew at the interval and price disclosed when you subscribe, until canceled.
I have enabled renewal reminder emails through Stripe, set to send about seven days before renewal. Please keep your account email current and check spam folders. Email delivery is not guaranteed. Any notice required by law will be provided as required.
You can cancel through your account's subscription-management options or contact hello@cameradates.com for assistance. Cancel before the next renewal to avoid another charge. Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period, with paid access continuing until then. Unsubscribing from emails does not cancel your subscription.
Changes to renewal prices will be communicated in advance as required by law, with an opportunity to cancel before the new price applies.
Refunds
I do not generally offer refunds for membership payments, renewal charges, downloaded guides, or unused portions of a subscription, except where required by applicable law or the rules of the service handling the purchase.
Canceling a membership stops future renewals; it does not automatically refund a payment already made.
If you believe there was a duplicate or incorrect charge, cannot access a purchase, or have an unusual billing situation, contact hello@cameradates.com. I may offer a refund or another remedy at my discretion. An exception in one case does not create a general refund entitlement.
Guide purchases through Gumroad are also subject to the refund terms displayed at purchase and Gumroad's applicable rules. Nothing in these terms limits mandatory consumer rights or payment dispute rights.
Downloads and copyright
Unless otherwise stated, Camera Dates articles, photographs, graphics, guides, PDFs, and other original materials are protected by copyright and owned by me or their respective rights holders.
You may use purchased or membership-provided materials for your personal learning and retain authorized downloads for that purpose. You may not redistribute, resell, upload, or share complete guides or member-only materials, or remove copyright notices, without permission. Ordinary links to public articles are welcome. Uses permitted by law, including fair use, remain permitted.
Community participation and your photographs
The Camera Dates Discourse community is currently free. Its community guidelines and any terms displayed there also apply.
Be respectful. Do not post unlawful material, harassment, spam, others' private information, or content you do not have permission to share. I may moderate or remove content and restrict access when reasonably necessary to protect the community or address violations.
You retain ownership of your photographs and other original contributions. By posting them, you grant the permissions needed to host, display, format, and maintain that content within the service, including technical backups. This does not give me a general right to sell your photographs or use them in advertising. I will ask permission before using a member's photograph for separate promotional purposes.
External services
Stripe, Gumroad, Discourse, and other external services have their own applicable terms and policies. Their availability and features may change. A link to another service does not guarantee its content or imply an endorsement of everything it offers.
Availability and responsibility
Services may occasionally be interrupted by maintenance, technical problems, or circumstances beyond my reasonable control. Except for commitments expressly made and rights required by law, content and services are provided as available, without guarantees that they will always be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the extent permitted by law, I am not responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the services. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded or limits mandatory consumer protections.
Changes and questions
I may update these terms as the services change. The effective date above identifies the current version. We will communicate material changes affecting an existing paid subscription in advance where required, and changes will not retroactively remove rights already acquired.
These terms are governed by Missouri law, subject to any mandatory protections applicable in your location.
